Virgin Voyages’ Scarlet Lady broke away from its berth at the port of Rhodes after several mooring lines snapped on Wednesday evening, September 30. An anonymous crew member who contacted Crew Center said the ship’s gangway fell into the water as the vessel moved away from the pier.
The incident happened shortly after 8:15 p.m. Local outlet neakriti.gr said strong waves caused several lines securing the cruise ship to break, allowing Scarlet Lady to move across the harbor and come into contact with a catamaran and two boats.
The crew member described the moment the ship separated from the dock, saying the mooring lines snapped before the gangway fell into the sea.

Rhodes Central Port Authority responded to the incident, while available tugboats were placed on standby. According to local reporting, the captain maneuvered Scarlet Lady under its own power and returned the ship to its mooring position.
A subsequent report by Zougla, identified the tourist vessel King of Rhodes as one of the ships involved in the contact. No injuries or marine pollution were reported.
