Cunard Team Discusses Career Growth and Support for Women at Sea

Cunard has released a new episode of its Crew Conversations podcast focusing on career development, training and support for women working aboard cruise ships.

The episode features Fran, an onboard HR Manager, and Barnaly, a Learning and Development Officer. They discuss changes they have witnessed in the maritime industry and the training opportunities available to crew members. They also address the support available to women aboard Cunard’s ships.

The episode offers a look at two positions that play an important role behind the scenes. HR managers support crew members throughout their contracts, while learning and development officers help employees complete training, improve their skills and prepare for possible promotion.

For crew members, career development at sea can be challenging. Contracts, working hours and limited time ashore can make traditional training difficult. Shipboard learning programs therefore allow employees to continue developing professionally while remaining aboard.

Cunard says training is provided by qualified and experienced colleagues, while several departments offer internal promotion opportunities.

The discussion also highlights how women continue to build careers across departments that were historically dominated by men, including maritime, technical and senior leadership positions.
