Oceania Cruises has released new details about Oceania Sonata, the first vessel in a planned class of five new luxury cruise ships.
The ship is scheduled to enter service in August 2027, beginning a new phase of expansion for the cruise line.
Oceania Sonata will include 13 dining venues, among them two new concepts named La Table par Maîtres Cuisiniers de France and Nikkei Kitchen.
The vessel will also introduce redesigned accommodations and new suite categories, including Oceania Cruises’ first two-bedroom Owner’s Suites.
Its inaugural season is expected to include 22 voyages visiting more than 90 destinations in Europe, the Caribbean and the Americas.
Behind the new restaurants, suites and guest areas will be a large international crew preparing the vessel for service.
A new cruise ship requires employees across housekeeping, food and beverage, marine operations, engineering, entertainment, guest services, medical care and other departments.
Senior officers and department leaders generally join during the preparation period before delivery. Additional crew members then arrive for familiarization, safety training and operational exercises.
Restaurant teams will also need training for the ship’s new dining concepts, including menus, service procedures, kitchen operations and food-safety requirements.
Oceania Cruises places food at the center of its brand, meaning the culinary team will have a particularly visible role aboard the new vessel.
The line operates smaller luxury ships where personalized service is a major part of the guest experience. Crew members are expected to learn guest preferences and provide attentive service across longer, destination-focused itineraries.
Oceania Sonata will be followed by four additional ships in the class, creating further recruitment and promotion opportunities as the fleet grows.
The ship’s debut in August 2027 will therefore represent more than the arrival of a new vessel. It will also create a new shipboard workplace for officers and crew members from around the world.
