Costa Cruises first LNG vessel to be named Costa Smeralda

Costa Cruises revealed the name of its latest cruise ship, Costa Smeralda set to debut in October 2019. The news was announced during the steel cutting ceremony today at Meyer Turku shipyard in Finland. Costa Smeralda will be the first vessel in Costa Cruises Fleet to be powered by liquefied natural gas (LNG), the world’s cleanest burning fossil fuel. The vessel will exceed 180,000 gross tons with more than 2,600 staterooms for a total capacity of 6,600 passengers onboard.

Costa Cruises to Implement Zero Tolerance Alcohol Policy For Officers

Zero alcohol policy for all no discrimination. This comment on the social media by Costa Cruises Chief Electrical Engineer Roberto Pibiri sparked huge debate between crew and officers. As of August 19th, Costa Cruises will implement zero tolerance alcohol policy for employees working in the engine department, bridge officers, medical and deck department. This means that they are not allowed have alcohol in the crew bar, disco or any bars aboard the ship.

We are deeply saddened to share with you the death of Costa Magica crew member. The 27-year-old male dishwasher from India which is yet to be named was found dead in his cabin. According to Antigua Observer, the crew member was found by his roommate just before 2 pm.
