Hamburg's waterfront is set to become the stage for one of the most impressive cruise events of the year as AIDA Cruises celebrates its 30th anniversary with a spectacular three-ship parade on the Elbe River.
The evening celebration brings together three of the company's cruise ships—AIDAprima, AIDAperla, and AIDAsol—for a carefully choreographed display in the heart of Hamburg.
The centerpiece of the celebration is expected around 8 p.m., when the three ships will line up in front of the city's famous Landungsbrücken. Positioned just 120 meters apart, the vessels will create a dramatic backdrop for a colorful waterfront show featuring specially coordinated tugboat performances.
Months of preparation have gone into making the event possible. AIDA Cruises worked closely with the Hamburg Port Authority and local harbor pilots to plan every maneuver. The complex operation was rehearsed multiple times using advanced ship simulators to ensure the large vessels can perform with precision in the busy harbor.
Each ship has its own carefully timed arrival. AIDAprima returns directly from a cruise and will perform a turn near the iconic Elbphilharmonie before joining the formation. Meanwhile, AIDAperla and AIDAsol will leave their berths by reversing toward the Landungsbrücken—an impressive maneuver completed without tugboat assistance.
Adding to the spectacle, four harbor tugboats will perform a synchronized display similar to the popular demonstrations seen during Hamburg's annual port festival, creating a fitting tribute to three decades of AIDA Cruises.
The anniversary marks an important milestone for Germany's largest cruise brand. The company's first ship entered service 30 years ago, launching a brand that has since grown into the country's market leader. Today, AIDA Cruises operates a fleet of 11 cruise ships serving destinations around the world.
Hamburg remains one of the company's most important home ports. AIDA records around 120 cruise calls in the city each year and also operates its nautical headquarters there, where specialists provide operational support for the fleet, including voyage planning and navigation assistance worldwide.
