A 62-year-old British cruise passenger was found dead in her cabin while her ship was visiting the Greek island of Santorini, according to Greek authorities.

The Hellenic Coast Guard said the Thira Port Authority was notified in the early hours of Sunday, July 26, by the local shipping agent representing a Marshall Islands-flagged cruise ship that the passenger had been discovered unresponsive in her cabin.

Following the report, the woman's body was transported by boat from the cruise ship to the port of Athinios before being taken to the General Hospital of Thira, where her death was officially confirmed.

Thira Port Authority has launched a preliminary investigation into the incident and ordered the body to be transferred to the Piraeus Forensic Service for an autopsy. The examination is expected to determine the exact cause of death.

Greek authorities have not released any additional details regarding the circumstances surrounding the passenger's death, and there has been no indication of suspicious circumstances.

Authorities have not identified the cruise ship by name, only stating that it sails under the Marshall Islands flag. However, based on the cruise schedule for Santorini on July 26, three cruise ships called at the island that day: Celebrity Infinity, Oceania Regatta, and Celestyal Discovery. Of those vessels, only Oceania Regatta is registered under the Marshall Islands flag.
