Norwegian Cruise Line Holdings has reached an agreement to sell Oceania Sirena, continuing the gradual transition away from the classic R-class ships that helped define the Oceania Cruises brand for more than two decades. The company has not disclosed the buyer or financial details of the transaction.

According to Cruise Industry News, Sirena is expected to leave the Oceania fleet following the completion of its scheduled spring 2028 deployment.

Originally launched in 1999 as R Four for the now-defunct Renaissance Cruises, the ship has enjoyed a long and varied career. After Renaissance's collapse, she joined Princess Cruises in 2002, sailing as Ocean Princess until 2016. She was then transferred to Oceania Cruises, where she was extensively refurbished and entered service as Sirena.

The sale is another step in Oceania Cruises' ongoing fleet transformation. As the brand increasingly focuses on its larger and newer luxury vessels, including the Vista and Allura classes, its original fleet of R-class ships has steadily been reduced.

Nautica is being transformed into Oceania Aurelia, with reduced passenger capacity and a renewed focus on longer, destination-intensive voyages.

Insignia remains the last traditional R-class ship in Oceania's fleet after a previously announced sale to residential cruise startup Crescent Seas was ultimately canceled.

The identity of Sirena's future owner remains unknown, but industry observers are already speculating about potential buyers. One name that could emerge is Azamara Cruises, which currently operates four R-class vessels—Azamara Journey, Azamara Quest, Azamara Pursuit, and Azamara Onward. Because the company already has extensive operational experience with the ship class, adding another R-class vessel could be a logical fit if it decides to expand its fleet.

Whether Azamara ultimately becomes the buyer remains purely speculative, and Norwegian Cruise Line Holdings has not provided any indication regarding the purchaser.
