Mexico has recorded its strongest first half ever for cruise tourism, welcoming more than 6.5 million cruise passengers between January and June 2026, according to the country's Ministry of Tourism (Sectur).

During the six-month period, 1,839 cruise ship calls were recorded, marking a 12.2% increase compared to the same period last year. The average number of passengers per cruise ship also rose to 3,554, up 4.3% from 2025.

Several ports posted significant growth, with Puerto Chiapas, Mazatlán, Cabo San Lucas, Progreso, and Cozumel among the top-performing destinations. Puerto Chiapas led the way, nearly doubling its passenger traffic compared to the first half of 2025.

Mexico's Pacific coast saw particularly strong momentum, with passenger numbers increasing by more than 36%, while Gulf and Caribbean ports also continued to expand, reinforcing the country's position as one of the world's leading cruise destinations.
