Holland America Line has unveiled a €500 million investment to modernize six of its cruise ships through a major refurbishment program led by Italian shipbuilder Fincantieri. The initiative, known as Holland America Evolution, aims to bring the design, comfort, and onboard experiences of the line's Signature and Vista-class vessels closer to its newer Pinnacle-class ships.

The first ship to undergo renovations will be Oosterdam, with work expected to be completed in 2027 ahead of its 2028 cruise season. Five additional ships Zuiderdam, Nieuw Amsterdam, Westerdam, Noordam, and Eurodam will follow.

The upgrades will include redesigned cabins, new suite categories, refreshed public spaces, and the introduction of the Grand Dutch Café, a venue inspired by traditional Dutch café culture. Guests can also expect enhanced dining, entertainment, and expanded accommodation options, including solo cabins with private verandas and spacious premium suites.

Sustainability is a key focus of the project. Rather than replacing materials wherever possible, the refurbishment will prioritize reusing and restoring existing interiors while introducing energy-efficient systems and navigation improvements designed to reduce fuel consumption and environmental impact.

The modernization program reflects Holland America Line's long-standing partnership with Fincantieri, which has built the cruise line's entire current fleet. By extending the lifespan of its ships while improving guest experience and operational efficiency, the company is investing in a more sustainable future for its cruise operations.
