NCL’s Biggest Cruise Ship Ever Floated Out

Norwegian Aura has reached a major construction milestone, touching water for the first time during her float-out ceremony at Fincantieri’s Monfalcone shipyard on April 16.

The float-out marks the completion of the ship’s external hull and signals the start of the next phase of construction, where interior spaces, technical systems, and onboard venues will take shape. As part of maritime tradition, ceremonial coins were welded into the hull, symbolizing good fortune and safe journeys for the ship, crew, and future guests.

Set to debut in May 2027, Norwegian Aura will become the largest vessel in the Norwegian Cruise Line fleet. The ship will feature over 1,970 staterooms and accommodate around 3,880 guests at double occupancy. Measuring approximately 344 meters in length and 170,000 gross tons, she is also about 10 percent larger than her sister ships.

Designed with multi-generational travel in mind, the ship will offer expanded outdoor areas, including a larger pool deck with additional seating, hot tubs, and a nearby kids’ aqua park. Guests can also expect enhanced spaces along Ocean Boulevard, as well as dedicated zones for families, children, and teens. For those seeking a quieter atmosphere, the adults-only Vibe Beach Club will provide a more relaxed escape.

Norwegian Aura is scheduled to sail her maiden voyage on May 21, 2027, departing from Trieste on a seven-day Mediterranean cruise, followed by a transatlantic crossing to the United States. She will then homeport in Miami, offering Caribbean itineraries.
