Cruise Line Enforces Cleaning Fee for Food Taken From Restaurants and Buffets

Costa Cruises is reminding guests about onboard hygiene and sanitation rules, warning that passengers who remove food from buffet areas and restaurants for consumption outside designated dining spaces may face a €60 cleaning fee.

In a letter sent to guests, the cruise line explained that taking food into cabins, pool areas, public lounges, or other indoor spaces is strictly prohibited for health and hygiene reasons. Costa said the measure is intended to help prevent food contamination, reduce the risk of parasites, and maintain high standards of cleanliness onboard its ships.

“All food must be consumed exclusively in designated dining areas,” the notice states.

According to the letter, only Room Service staff trained in hygiene and sanitation procedures are authorized to transport and deliver food to guest cabins upon request.

Costa Cruises also warned that guests who fail to follow the provision could be charged a €60 cleaning fee.

The cruise line thanked passengers for their cooperation and understanding, emphasizing the importance of maintaining hygiene standards for all guests onboard.
