Carnival Liberty Guest Dies After Going Overboard

A passenger aboard Carnival Liberty jumped overboard Wednesday night while the ship was sailing from Celebration Key to Nassau, Bahamas, and was later recovered dead after an emergency search and rescue operation.

Carnival Cruise Line confirmed that the male guest apparently climbed over his stateroom balcony shortly after the vessel departed the cruise line’s new private destination in the Bahamas.

“The Carnival Liberty crew responded quickly with a search effort and successfully retrieved him from the water, but he did not survive,” Carnival said in a statement. “We are providing support to the guest’s family who were traveling with him, and our thoughts and prayers are with them and their loved ones.”

According to passenger accounts shared online, crew members immediately launched emergency procedures, including deploying a rescue boat and throwing life-saving equipment into the water. Guests onboard followed the unfolding rescue efforts in shock as the search continued in the dark waters between Celebration Key and Nassau.
