Standing With Jamaica: Carnival Donates $1M To Direct Relief

As the people of Jamaica begin the painful process of recovering from the devastation left behind by Hurricane Melissa, they are not facing this difficult moment alone. Compassion is already moving into action.

The Miami HEAT, the Micky & Madeleine Arison Family Foundation, and Carnival Corporation & plc have come together to donate $1,000,000 to Direct Relief, providing immediate medical support and long-term recovery assistance to the communities hit hardest by the storm. This is not the first time these partners have stepped up in moments of need. Since 2013, they have contributed nearly $17.2 million to support relief efforts during some of the toughest crises around the world.

Their support reflects a shared message: Jamaica matters — and its people matter.

A Community That Has Always Given So Much

For decades, Jamaica has welcomed travelers with its joyful culture, music, and unmatched warmth. Millions of cruise guests and crew members have made memories on its shores. Now, in this moment of heartbreak, leaders from the cruise industry and the Miami sports community are giving that same warmth back.

“We’re sending thoughts of comfort and strength to our friends in Jamaica,” shared Josh Weinstein, CEO of Carnival Corporation & plc. “Our connection to Jamaica runs deep… we need to support its communities now more than ever.”

Those words ring true for so many who have experienced firsthand the kindness of the Jamaican people.

Help Where It Is Needed Most

Direct Relief has already mobilized:

  • 100 field medic packs for frontline responders
  • Critical medicines and antibiotics
  • Protective equipment
  • Supplies for chronic illnesses and emergency first aid

These tools will go straight into the hands of those caring for families who have lost homes, stability, and loved ones. As Amy Weaver, CEO of Direct Relief, expressed, this support strengthens the ability of local health workers to bring immediate comfort today, while also building resilience for the future.

The road ahead remains long. Recovery from a Category 5 storm is not measured in days or weeks, but in courage, community, and continued support.

“Our hearts go out to the people of Jamaica,” said Eric Woolworth of the Miami HEAT Group. In Florida, residents deeply understand what it means to rebuild from disaster. That familiarity is now a source of solidarity: a shared belief that homes, livelihoods, and hope can rise again.

This donation is a reminder that when disaster strikes, humanity responds. It shows that compassion is stronger than any storm.
