Following the destruction caused by the hurricane Melissa, Royal Caribbean International has stepped forward once again to support the people of the Caribbean in their time of need. The cruise ship Rhapsody of the Seas will make a special relief call to the port of Falmouth this morning, bringing essential supplies to assist in ongoing disaster recovery efforts.
Royal Caribbean’s President and CEO Michael Bayley shared a message announcing the humanitarian mission:
“This morning the Rhapsody of the Seas will call into Falmouth, Jamaica on a relief call for a couple of hours to offload over 120 pallets of supplies of water, bedding, medical supplies, food items. The pallets will be offloaded and then items packaged as relief packages for immediate distribution with the help of GEM, our relief partner. A huge thank you to the Falmouth Port Authority and community for opening the port.”
The offloaded goods including water, bedding, food, and medical essentials will be distributed with the help of Global Empowerment Mission (GEM) and local volunteers. This marks another chapter in Royal Caribbean’s long history of responding swiftly and compassionately to communities affected by natural disasters.
The Caribbean isn’t just Royal Caribbean’s home region, it’s part of the company’s heart and identity. For decades, the cruise line has shown consistent dedication to helping island nations rebuild after devastating storms.
After Hurricane Dorian ravaged the Bahamas in 2019 Royal Caribbean launched one of the largest humanitarian missions in cruise industry history.
The line delivered over 20,000 meals per day, alongside thousands of bottles of water, diapers, and generators.
Ships like Empress of the Seas, Symphony of the Seas, and Mariner of the Seas played direct roles in transporting aid.
The company also pledged $1 million in financial support, matched by employee donations.
