The cruise ship Celebrity Infinity experienced a major power outage while sailing off the coast of Greece during its current repositioning voyage from Barcelona to Piraeus (Athens), leaving the vessel temporarily adrift and forcing the cancellation of its next scheduled cruise.
According to reports from passengers onboard, the blackout occurred at approximately 3:00 AM, resulting in a complete loss of essential systems across the ship. Cabins were left without electricity, air conditioning stopped working, toilets were affected, and Wi-Fi service was unavailable. Guests also reported hearing a “Bravo, Bravo, Bravo” announcement over the ship’s public address system, a signal commonly used onboard to indicate a fire or emergency response situation.
Tugboats Assist Ship Back to Port
With the ship unable to maneuver under its own power, tugboats were dispatched to the scene to help stabilize the vessel and guide it safely back toward Athens. Celebrity Infinity was eventually assisted into the Port of Piraeus, where it docked safely.
Passengers described a slow and carefully managed disembarkation process due to the ongoing power issues. While onboard, the crew opened dining venues and the cafeteria to provide light breakfast service, and elevators were made operational to assist guests leaving the ship. However, at the time of disembarkation, there was still no confirmed timeline for full restoration of electrical power.
Despite the seriousness of the incident, there were no immediate reports of injuries among passengers or crew.
Celebrity Cruises Cancels February 16 Sailing
Following the incident, Celebrity Cruises informed guests booked on the ship’s next scheduled voyage departing February 16, 2026, that the sailing had been officially cancelled.

In a letter sent to guests, the company explained:
“During our previous voyage, the ship experienced a technical issue, and while our experts have been working diligently, we need additional time to complete necessary assessments and repairs. After carefully considering all options, we've made the difficult decision to cancel the February 16, 2026, sailing.”
Celebrity Cruises confirmed that affected guests will receive full refunds of all cruise payments, including non-refundable deposits and any pre-paid amenities, returned to the original form of payment.
Investigation and Repairs Underway
Technical teams are now working to assess the cause of the power failure and complete necessary repairs before the ship can safely return to service. Power outages at sea can stem from a range of issues, including engine room equipment failures, electrical distribution faults, or generator problems.
Celebrity Infinity, which entered service in 2001, is part of Celebrity Cruises’ Millennium-class fleet and regularly operates itineraries across Europe and other global destinations.
Further updates are expected once repairs are completed and the ship’s operational schedule is confirmed.
