Passenger Medically Evacuated From Viking Sky Off Coast of Mexico

A 76-year-old American woman was medically evacuated from the cruise ship Viking Sky off the coast of the Mexican state of Michoacán after suffering a leg injury, according to a statement from the Mexican Navy.

The evacuation was carried out by personnel from the Mexican Navy through the Sixteenth Naval Zone and the Naval Station of Search, Rescue and Maritime Surveillance (ENSAR). Authorities were alerted after a request was received to disembark a passenger who had sustained a fracture to the femur of her left leg following a fall onboard the cruise ship.

Following the call for assistance, a naval vessel from ENSAR Lázaro Cárdenas was immediately dispatched to the area with specialized rescue personnel and Naval Health staff on board to conduct the medical evacuation.

Once the rescue vessel reached the designated meeting point with Viking Sky, naval medical personnel assessed the passenger and prepared her for transfer using a stretcher. She was then transported safely to port, where she was handed over in stable condition to a Civil Protection ambulance.

The passenger was subsequently taken to a local hospital to receive further specialized medical treatment. No further details regarding her condition have been released.
