Norovirus Outbreak Sickens 200 Cruise Passengers

A norovirus outbreak has struck the cruise ship Artania, leaving around 200 passengers sick and prompting an emergency medical response. The ship, which departed from Bremerhaven on 14 day cruise to the Norwegian Fords , was en route to Brønnøysund, Norway when the illness began to spread.

Health officials report that the number of cases jumped quickly from 50 on Tuesday to roughly 200 by Wednesday. The affected passengers have been isolated to prevent further spread. Artania operated by Phoenix Reisen has a capacity of approximately 1,200 passengers.

Local authorities have confirmed the outbreak. Remi Solberg of Arctic Guide Service Lofoten AS told Norwegian outlet iFinnmark that the situation is being actively managed. In response, an additional doctor and nurse have been dispatched to the ship to assist the onboard medical team.
