A crew member aboard the MSC Magnifica was medically evacuated on Wednesday evening after suffering what the ship’s medical team described as a probable onset of a heart attack. The medical evacuation was conducted while the cruise ship was sailing off the coast of San Vito Lo Capo, Sicily.
At approximately 19:00, the Port Authority of Trapani received an urgent call from the cruise ship requesting immediate assistance. The operation was coordinated by MRSC Palermo, with support from CIRM (Centro Internazionale Radio Medico), the Italian Coast Guard, and medical staff from the 118 emergency service.
Despite challenging weather conditions, the Coast Guard deployed the patrol boat SAR CP 330, which maneuvered into a sheltered area to come safely alongside MSC Magnifica. At around 21:15, the crew member was transferred to the patrol vessel and taken ashore at the Port of Trapani, where an ambulance team was waiting to provide further medical care.
Authorities have not disclosed the identity, nationality, or position onboard of the crew member involved. Likewise, no updates have been given on their current condition following the transfer to shore.
We extend our best wishes and prayers for a speedy recovery.
