This week, Fred. Olsen Cruise Lines is shining a well-deserved spotlight on someone who truly embodies what it means to grow, serve, and care at sea. Rosendo Napalinga III better known as “Nap” has just celebrated an incredible 21 years with the company, and his journey from Deck Boy to Chief Security Officer is nothing short of inspiring.
Nap started his Fred. Olsen story back in 2004 on board Braemar. What began as a dream to travel and explore quickly turned into a lifelong career. Over the years, Nap worked his way up through the Security Team from Guard to Officer, then Supervisor, and finally being promoted to Chief Security Officer in 2022.
“When I first thought about joining the cruise industry, I was drawn to the idea of traveling and meeting people from around the world,” Nap says. “What’s kept me here is the sense of family and community on board. That’s what makes work so meaningful.”
One of Nap’s favorite memories took place during a fleet gathering in Funchal, where Balmoral, Bolette, and Borealis all came together. “There was so much joy on the decks families taking photos, guests laughing, the crew competing in swimming races and tug of war, and the King Neptune Ceremony. That day reminded me why I love what I do. We weren’t just working—we were part of something bigger.”
But Nap’s dedication truly shines in the quieter, more personal moments. He recalls one day noticing a guest sitting alone, pale and clearly unwell. “I approached her and stayed with her while we waited for the medical team. I just wanted her to feel safe,” he shares. “Later, she recovered and thanked me. It made me feel proud. That’s why I do this job not just for safety, but to be there when someone needs you.”
From his first steps on deck to becoming a trusted leader, Nap’s 21 years have been a journey of growth, compassion, and commitment. He’s not just keeping guests safe—he’s helping create the warm, welcoming atmosphere that Fred. Olsen is known for.
Here’s to Nap and the many ways he makes life at sea better for everyone on board.
