Jazz Legend Passes Away on Celebrity Summit

Passengers aboard The Jazz Cruise were left heartbroken after learning that renowned jazz musician Ken Peplowski passed away during the final days of the voyage. Peplowski died on February 2, 2026, while the cruise ship Celebrity Summit was sailing in the Gulf of Mexico. He was 66 years old.

According to reports, Peplowski was found in his stateroom after missing a scheduled performance. Shortly afterward, friends and cruise organizers confirmed his passing.

Later that evening, guests were informed through an announcement before the big band’s main concert.

Guests say the atmosphere in the theater changed instantly.

What began as a normal concert introduction was followed by gasps, then silence, as hundreds of passengers processed the news together. For many guests, it was one of the most emotional moments they had ever experienced on a cruise ship.

Ken Peplowski was not just a featured artist on the cruise, he was a central part of the experience.

Known for his warmth and humor, he regularly connected with guests, chatted with fans in hallways and lounges, and made every performance feel personal.

Michael Lazaroff, executive director of the cruise, described him as more than just a musician:

“He was a great musician, but he was also one of the greatest entertainers ever.”

In 2021, Peplowski was diagnosed with multiple myeloma, a serious form of cancer. Even so, he continued to tour and perform, including taking part in this year’s Jazz Cruise.

Friends say he rarely let his illness slow him down.

In a tribute, longtime friend Lee Mergner wrote:

“He fought this often fatal disease with a unique combination of courage, fortitude, and humor.”

Those who traveled with him on the ship say he remained positive, funny, and fully engaged with both fellow musicians and guests until the very end.

Rest in peace, Ken. Your music will continue to travel the seas.
