Carnival Corporation is bringing its surplus meal donation program to Latin America for the first time, starting with Roatán. The company announced that 210 portions of prepared but unserved meals from the Carnival Jubilee were donated to local organizations supporting communities in need.
The initiative is part of Carnival Corporation’s “Less Left Over” strategy, which focuses on reducing food waste while helping fight food insecurity in ports visited by its ships. Since launching in 2017, the program has expanded to 18 ports worldwide and has provided more than 320,000 meal portions globally.
Local officials in Roatán welcomed the program, saying the donated meals will support schools, hospitals, and community groups across the island. Carnival representatives also highlighted the importance of food safety and coordination between shipboard teams and local authorities to ensure the meals are safely transferred ashore.
The announcement also highlights Carnival Corporation’s long-term investment in Roatán through Isla Tropicale, its cruise destination in Honduras, which has welcomed nearly 9 million visitors since opening in 2009.
According to the company, its food waste reduction efforts have already cut per-person food waste by 47% since 2019, with a long-term goal of reducing food waste by 50% by 2030.
