Holland America Line Rises $4.7 Million for Cancer Support

In honor of World Cancer Day marked on February 4, Holland America Line has raised $4.7 million thru their annual On Deck for a Cause program. The company said that this fund will benefit 6 international cancer organizations in the United Kingdom, United States, Australia, Canada, Holland, and Germany.

Holland America “On Deck for a Cause program” is initiative that involve onboard guests participating in a noncompetitive 5k walk on each of the line's thirteen ships.

The company started the fundraising program back in 2006, and since then hundreds of thousands of passengers have walked in support for this cancer fundraising program.

Guests onboard HAL Ships are invited to donate $20 to the On Deck for a Cause program with a minimum of $15 (75%) distributed to the cancer organizations. The remaining 25% covers administrative and program expenses. When the cruise ship is ate sea guests participate in a 5k walk around the open deck. Guests joining this activity receive an On Deck for a Cause wristband and T-shirt and attend a post-walk reception. 

 

Proceeds are distributed among the following cancer organizations:

  • Canadian Cancer Society
  • American Cancer Society
  • Cancer Council Australia
  • Deutsche Krebshilfe
  • Cancer Research UK
  • KWF Kankerbestrijding
