The cruise ship Genting Dream cruise ship joined major emergency response drill held at Phuket Deep Sea Port on July 9. The large-scale exercise, called Passenger Ship Exercise 2025, aimed to boost Thailand’s maritime safety and disaster preparedness.
Organized by Thai maritime authorities, the drill simulated real-life scenarios: lifeboat evacuations, rescue operations for passengers who jumped overboard, and an onboard fire—complete with support from the Royal Thai Navy and local emergency teams.
The highlight of the drill was the active participation of the Genting Dream which served as the center for simulated emergencies. These included:
- Evacuating passengers and crew using lifeboats
- Rescuing individuals who jumped overboard after missing evacuation
- Fighting a fire on board, with support from the Phuket Provincial Administrative Organisation and the Royal Thai Navy vessel HTMS Panyi
The event brought together a wide range of public and private sector partners. Participants included the Royal Thai Navy, Marine Department, Disaster Prevention and Mitigation officials, the Ministry of Public Health, and emergency medical teams, among others.
Admiral Phairoj Fuangchanchai, Director-General of Thai-MECC, led the opening ceremony, while Rear Admiral Benjamaporn Wongnakornsawang helped explain the purpose of the exercise and observed operations on the ship.
