Fred. Olsen “Launches” Teleportation at Sea

If you’ve ever wished you could hop between cruise ships as easily as switching rooms, Fred. Olsen Cruise Lines just made that dream come “true” for a moment.

The cruise line introduced FleetPortals™, a piece of “next-generation technology” that would allow guests to instantly travel between its ships.

Yes, instantly.

According to the tongue-in-cheek announcement, guests could enjoy lunch on Balmoral, then step through a portal and catch sunset drinks on Borealis, all within moments. And if that wasn’t enough, they could easily move over to Bolette in between, just for the experience.

The cruise line summed it up perfectly with the line, “Step through. Travel instantly. Experience more.”

While the idea may sound like something out of a sci-fi movie, the real purpose behind the announcement is to highlight Fred. Olsen’s upcoming Fleet Fiesta event in Las Palmas, where all three ships will come together in one place for a unique celebration.

The event will bring a lively atmosphere to the port, with crew competitions, entertainment, and performances from across the fleet, all set against the vibrant backdrop of the Canary Islands. It’s a rare moment where guests can truly feel the connection between the ships, even without the help of imaginary portals.

April Fools’ jokes have become a tradition in the cruise industry, and this one hits just the right note. It’s creative, fun, and just believable enough to make you wonder for a second if cruising has taken a giant leap into the future.

Of course, FleetPortals™ may not be real, but the idea captures something cruise fans genuinely love. More experiences, more variety, and more ways to enjoy life at sea.

And if teleportation ever does become reality, there’s no doubt many would be ready to step through without hesitation.
