Former Burger King CEO Takes the Helm at NCLH

Norwegian Cruise Line Holdings (NCLH) has announced a major leadership change, appointing former Burger King CEO John W. Chidsey as its new President and Chief Executive Officer.

Chidsey replaces Harry Sommer, who is stepping down from both his executive role and his position on the company’s board with immediate effect. The move signals a strategic shift as the cruise giant looks to strengthen financial discipline and operational performance.

Best known for his leadership in the global fast-food industry, Chidsey previously served as CEO of Burger King Holdings and later led Subway through a period of modernization and brand repositioning.

Before entering the restaurant sector, he also held senior leadership roles at Cendant Corporation, overseeing its automotive and financial services divisions, including well-known brands such as Avis and Budget Rent A Car.

Although new to the CEO role, Chidsey is no stranger to NCLH. He has been a member of the company’s board since February 2025 and previously served as a director between 2013 and 2022.

His appointment is widely seen as a move toward a more finance-focused and performance-driven management style, as the company navigates rising costs, fleet expansion, and growing competition in the global cruise market.
