The cruise ship Costa Smeralda operated by Costa Cruises, arrived on Tuesday at Chantiers Naval de Marseille in France for a scheduled dry-dock.
Now more than six years old, the ship is undergoing its second dry-dock since being delivered by Meyer Turku in 2019. During this stay, inspectors from the classification society will carry out checks on key safety and technical systems.
In addition to inspections, the Costa Smeralda is expected to receive several upgrades. These typically include hull cleaning and repainting, fresh flooring and furniture replacements, and other improvements that can only be done while the ship is out of service.
All work must be finished by December 11, 2025, as the ship is scheduled to resume operations the following day, December 12, departing from Savona, Italy. After returning to service, Costa Smeralda will spend the winter season offering week-long cruises across the Western Mediterranean.
