China has reached another milestone in its growing cruise shipbuilding as the country’s second domestically built large cruise ship, Adora Flora City, successfully floated out from dry dock, marking the transition from structural construction to final outfitting and testing.
The vessel is currently under construction at Shanghai Waigaoqiao Shipbuilding, part of the state-owned China State Shipbuilding Corporation (CSSC). The float-out signals that the ship’s hull and main structure are largely complete and that the project has moved into its final construction stages before delivery.
The new ship will be one of the largest cruise vessels ever built in China. With a gross tonnage of around 141,900, the vessel will feature 16 decks and 2,130 cabins, accommodating up to 5,232 passengers at full capacity.
Compared with China’s first domestically built large cruise ship, the Adora Magic City, the new vessel is 17.4 meters longer and offers expanded public spaces designed to enhance the onboard experience.
The ship will also feature improved environmental technology, including additional exhaust gas desulfurization systems and denitrification systems aimed at reducing emissions and improving environmental performance during operations.
