A passenger died aboard the Seven Seas Voyager operated by Regent Seven Seas Cruises while the cruise ship was visiting Greencastle in County Donegal on Friday, August 28.

According to Ireland Live, the passenger was brought ashore at Greencastle Harbour and taken to Letterkenny University Hospital.

The Regent Seven Seas Cruises ship arrived in Lough Foyle and anchored off Greencastle on Friday morning. It was visiting the area during a 12-night cruise from Reykjavik, Iceland, to Southampton, England.

A Foyle Port spokesperson confirmed the death, saying the transfer was arranged by the ship’s local agent. Gardaí handled the matter in line with Irish regulations.

No details have been released about the passenger’s identity or the cause of death.

Local tourism organization Go Visit Inishowen shared its condolences.

“Sadly, we understand that a passenger has passed away. Our thoughts are with their family and loved ones at this difficult time,” the organization said.

The Seven Seas Voyager continued its planned 12-night cruise from Reykjavik to Southampton after the visit. The luxury ship was built in 2003 and refurbished in 2026. It can carry around 700 passengers and more than 440 crew members.
