A health program designed to help Costa Crociere crew members manage chronic conditions while working at sea has been named a finalist for a major maritime welfare award.

Costa’s Ocean’s Health program is shortlisted for the Health and Wellbeing at Sea Award at the 2026 Crew Connect Global Awards. The award organizer’s finalist list confirms Costa is one of five finalists in a category recognizing initiatives that improve the health and wellbeing of seafarers, their families and communities.

Costa developed Ocean’s Health with the medical team at Carnival Maritime, which provides marine and medical support to Costa and AIDA Cruises. In its announcement of the nomination, Costa said the program combines prevention, education, medical support and personalized care for crew members living with chronic diseases.

The company shared more practical detail when it introduced the program earlier this year. Participation is voluntary. Enrolled crew members receive a dedicated health passport, regular appointments with onboard medical staff and support for continuing their care at home between contracts. Costa also said medication may be available onboard and that the program offers guidance on nutrition and lifestyle.

Ocean’s Health reaches beyond those enrolled for individual care. According to Costa, it includes health campaigns and nutrition and fitness activities for the wider crew. The aim is to help people look after their health throughout their time at sea, including through early intervention when a problem needs attention.

That continuity matters for crew members whose care must span months onboard and time at home. Costa credited its shipboard medical teams, along with colleagues ashore and onboard, for carrying out the program. Its public posts do not give an enrollment figure or report health outcomes, so the nomination should be seen as recognition of the initiative, rather than proof of its results.

The winners will be announced on October 21, 2026, during the Crew Connect Global event in Manila.
