Two cruise ships operated by TUI Cruises have safely transited the Strait of Hormuz, following reports that the vessels were briefly caught in a tense security situation in one of the world’s most sensitive maritime regions.
According to a report by Euronews, a private maritime security firm said that Mein Schiff 4 and Mein Schiff 5 were “temporarily targeted” during their passage through the strait. The advisory reportedly described radio warnings issued by the Islamic Revolutionary Guard, in the area and a possible nearby impact, although details remain limited.
The Revolutionary Guards warned by radio: "We are carrying out an operation, we are going to fire and destroy you." Furthermore, an impact was reportedly reported near a ship, Euronews reports.
Several ships in the region, including cruise vessels, temporarily switched off their AIS transponders while passing through the area, a precaution sometimes used in high-risk zones.
Despite the reported alerts, TUI Cruises said there was no confirmed or direct threat to its ships. The company described the situation as precautionary, noting that both vessels completed the transit without incident.
There were no reports of damage, and the ships continued their voyages as planned.
For now, the safe passage of both vessels offers some reassurance, even as security concerns in the region remain elevated.
