Passengers aboard the MSC Seashore experienced a tense moment early Tuesday after a report suggested that a male passenger had fallen overboard. The incident, however, was later determined to be a false alarm.
The alert came shortly after the ship departed Ocean Cay MSC Marine Reserve, the private island destination of MSC Cruises in the Bahamas. The vessel had spent the day docked at the island as part of a four-night Bahamas cruise.
Around midnight on March 10, a report circulated onboard claiming that a passenger had gone overboard from Deck 8. In response, the ship turned around while crew members began scanning the surrounding waters with searchlights as a precaution.
At the same time, officers reviewed footage from the ship’s surveillance cameras and overboard detection systems. The review found no evidence that anyone had fallen or jumped into the water.
To ensure everyone was safe, passengers were asked to return to their cabins while the crew conducted a full headcount. Using cruise cards, staff verified all guests and crew members on board.
Shortly after 1 a.m., the captain confirmed over the public address system that everyone was accounted for and the situation was a false alarm.
The temporary diversion did not affect the ship’s itinerary. The vessel continued its scheduled voyage and is expected to arrive in Nassau as planned.
